JAMMU: Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages celebrated Lohri with elders at Home for Aged and Infirm, Ambphalla, Jammu.
On the occasion, I.D Soni, Home for Aged and Infirm, Amphalla was the Chief Guest. Ramaalo Ram, Harbans Singh Manhas, H.L Bhagotra and Dr Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages were also present in the presidium.
While speaking on the occasion, Soni complimented all the participating folk artists and said that the real folk of Dogra region and Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages are doing appreciable job in promoting and preserving the old tradition in the form of tangible and intangible heritage of the rich old Dogra region.
Earlier, Dr Arvinder Singh Amn said that JKAACL decided to celebrate Lohri with elders especially with the performances of our rich old traditional music and dances related Lohri festival and also with a mission to provide platform to the dying folk forms like Bhaktian, Phummanian, Chhajja, Haran and Jagrana. Those who performed today include Mohan Lal and Party (Jaater), Girdhari Lal and Party (Bhaktian), Preeto Devi and Party (Jagrana), Rattan Dogra, Vijay Sharma and Party (Phummanian) and Ashok Kumar and Party (Chhajja/Haran).
Shivani Anand, Casual Announcer, RKJ, Hindi and Dogri Poet, conducted the proceedings of the programme and Bishan Das, Assistant Cultural Officer, JKAACL presented vote of thanks.
Vijay Gupta, R.C Vaid, Zutshi, Sars Bharti, Anil Sharma and Dev Kumar Gupta were also present.
