Dear Editor,To Make in India a reality, India must open up to world trade realities and rates at the earliest. Protections have resulted in higher prices for local consumers. We must learn to be competitive with regard to other countries. We should reduce import duties on all items in small doses, say 1% a month. It shall make India competitive and a developed nation soon. We should spend on creating cheaper manufacturing. India has never helped, subsidised or protected items such as software and labour. Their export has grown to heights. Supported and protected items such as iron, steel, milk, etc., have not earned a dollar for the past 40 years. Ashok Kumar Goel, Panchkula.
