STATE TIMES NEWS LEH: Shenam Tsogspa, Ladakh Marathon Team and villagers of respective marathon runners received Ladakhi marathon athletes on Thursday at KBR Airport Leh on their return after successfully performing and bringing laurels in Mumbai, Thane, Kolkata and Delhi marathons. The athletes went to Darjeeling for training in November last year and after that they took part in several marathons including Tata Steel Kolkata Marathon on December 16, 2018, Tata Mumbai Marathon on January 20, 2019, Thane Half Marathon on February 10, 2019, Mumbai Marathon on February 17, 2019, and IDBI Delhi Marathon on February 24, 2019. Every year since 2013, the winners of the Ladakh Marathon team are takesn to run various Marathons across the Country to give them exposure and train them further. “We are proud to announce that in such a short span, Jigmet Dolma of Igu and Tsetan Dolkar of Lamayuru have been running in the Indian Elite category together with the world’s best runners since 2017 where Jigmet Dolma came 3rd. This year Jigmet Dolma again stood 3rd in the Elite Category at the Tata Mumbal Marathon held on January 20, this year with a better timing and Tsetan came 5th. Jigmet and Tsetan continued their win by coming 2nd and 3rd respectively in the IDBI Marathon in Delhi on February 24, this year,” an official release from Ladakh Marathon announced. It added that these girls are encouraging other young runners and therefore this year in the Navi Mumbal Half Marathon (21km) Tashi Lhadol came 1st and Stanzin Chondol came 2nd and in the IDBI Delhi Marathon Tashi Lhadol came 2nd and Stanzin Chondol stood 3rd. In the Men’s category, Ladakh Scout’s Jigmet Norboo clocked 2hrs 47mins in the 42 km IDBI Marathon in Delhi and Manzoor Hussain has broken the 3 hr barrier and ran in under 3 hrs at both the Mumbai and Delhi marathons.
