TSEWANG RIGZIN LEH: The three-day ‘Ladakh College Students Conference’ on ‘Preservation of Ladakhi Culture and its contribution to Society’ concluded at Acharya Nagarjuna auditorium of the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS), Choglamsar here on Wednesday. This was the third ‘Ladakh College Students Conference’ and was organised by Students Welfare Committee of CIBS in collaboration with Ladakh Students Welfare Association of Central Institute of Tibetan Higher Studies, Sarnath (Varanasi). President Ladakh Buddhist Association, Tsewang Thinles was the Chief Guest on the occasion while Director CIBS, Prof Geshe Konchok Wangdus was the Guest of Honour. Speaking on the occasion, Thinles lauded efforts of all students and announced an amount of Rs 50,000 from LBA for the initiative. Expressing concern over recently reported incident of violence, Thinles said that such incidents were never heard earlier in Ladakh. A number of participants from different institutions shared their experiences and claimed that the conference was quite useful for student fraternity. Namgyal Stanzin Choszom from Lamdon School said that he has learnt a lot about rich cultural heritage of Ladakh during the conference. Similarly, Tsering Angmo from EJM Government Degree College Leh, while sharing her experience, opined that cultural heritage need to be preserved in today’s fast changing era as people mostly copy cultures from outside world. Phurbu Zangpo, one of the organising members, spoke about the need of organising the conference and said that organising such programmes would give a great experience to participants. Special Officer for Culture, Cultural Academy Leh, Tsewang Paljor assured every possible support to students in their endeavours for preserving Ladakhi culture. The three-day conference was inaugurated on May 21 by Skyabje Urgyan Rinpoche in presence of President Ladakh Gonpa Association and other dignitaries.
