REASI: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) is developing the entrepreneurship in vegetables and fruits at Bharakh village of Pouni block in Reasi district and is guiding farmers for implementation of innovative and scientific cultivation practices for fruits, vegetables and other crops by which the farmers are generating extra income.
This village has been adopted by the KVK, Reasi and is working in this village under the guidance of Associate Director Extension (ADE) and Incharge KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr.R.K.Arora. Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr.Banarsi.
As per the guidelines of KVK, Reasi two leading farmers of the village namely Gurdev Singh and Harjeet Singh are applying the innovative farming technologies especially in fruits and vegetables growing.
The progressive farmer Gurdev Singh because of his efforts and achievements received an award from MoS PMO’s office Dr. Jitendra Singh besides many from KVK Reasi. He has grown varieties of winter vegetables, fruits and medicinal plants and himself managing the outlets.
A progressive fruit crops grower, Harjeet Singh has established a big fruit orchard in which he is having mango, papaya, plum, banana, amla, litchi etc. of improved and hybrid varieties. He is applying an innovative method of irrigation. He irrigates his orchard with the underground method of irrigation by which the plants can be irrigated efficiently with least wastage of water and labour. In order to take care of his orchard he has installed CCTV cameras at his orchard and home.
