STATE TIMES NEWS REASI: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) organised a training programme on ‘Layout and management of orchards’ at Dadua village in Pounil bock of Reasi distt. which was attended by number of farmers of the village. The programme was organized under the guidance and supervision of Associate Director Extension and I/C KVKs of SKUAST-J, Dr.R.K.Arora. Dr.Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi talked in length on the scientific methodologies to layout and management of the orchards. He emphasized on the quality planting planting material and urged farmers to use only the recommended varieties of fruits crops for the better results. He said the farmers that there is ample scope for the commercial cultivation sub-tropical fruits like mango, litchi, aonla, ber, orange, lemon etc. by which farmers can enhance their income and employment. Dr.Banarsi explained the certain centrally and state centered government schemes/programmes ongoing in the district specifically for the orchardists. He also urged the farmers to use the ICTs for the horticultural crops. Dr.Suja Nabi Qureshi, scientist elaborated the scientific methods for the establishment of orchards. He talked in length on the selection of site, layout methods and planning of orchards, pit digging procedure, filling of pits, sources of quality planting material, wind breaking fencing etc. On this occasion many quarries were raised by the farmers which the experts answered in a satisfactorily way. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr.Banarsi Lal, Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi with formal vote of thanks.
