STATE TIMES NEWS KATHUA: The 11th Scientific Advisory Committee meeting of KVK, Kathua was organised on Monday at the KVK Premises under the chairmanship of Dr. K S Risam, Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu in the presence of Dr. J.P. Sharma, Director Research, Dr. R.K. Arora, Associate Director Extension (KVKs), Dr. B.C. Sharma Professor & Head Division of Agronomy, Dr. K.K. Sood, Professor, Division of Agroforestry, FoA, Chatha. The meeting was organised to deliberate upon the progress report of 2018-19 and finalize the Annual Action Plan for the year 2019-20. Dr. Risam, Vice Chancellor, SKUAST-Jammu in his presidential address appreciated the work done by KVK Kathua and suggested KVK to focus on Integrated approach in farming. He advised to organize collaborative programmes for achieving the doubling of farmers’ income. The meeting was attended by district heads of departments including agriculture, animal husbandry, sheep husbandry, horticulture, sericulture, NABARD, NYK, lead bank, Irrigation, progressive farmers and farm women of Kathua district. Dr. Amrish Vaid, Senior Scientist & Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kathua, presented the detailed Annual Progress Report of KVK Kathua for the year 2018-19 and action taken towards the suggestions and directions received during the 10th SAC meeting. During the deliberation, Dr. Vaid appraised the august house about the salient research and extension achievements of KVK, Kathua. Thereafter, the action plan for the fiscal year 2019-20 was also presented before the house for discussion and approval. Appreciating the work of KVK, Dr. J.P. Sharma, Director Research suggested to undertake exclusive programmes for women in agriculture. Dr. R.K. Arora suggested to organize training programmes on dairy technology in collaboration with line departments. Dr. B.C Sharma Professor & Head Division of Agronomy suggested to undertake on farm trials on oilseeds, especially in wheat-rice-toria cropping system to increase the cropping intensity. Dr. K.K. Sood discussed formulation of on-farm trials in agroforestry. Arun Gupta, Chief Agriculture Officer discussed about the needs of farmers in Kathua and requested KVK to undertake trainings for solving their problems. C.L. Sharma Chief Horticulture Officer, Kathua requested KVK to plan trainings on High Density Plantation, especially in sub-tropical fruits like mango, litchi and citrus. Madan Lal, DDM, NABARD shared the experiences of FPOs and Farmers Clubs working in consultation with KVK. Dr. D.D. Dogra, Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Kathua suggested to organise awareness programmes on perennial fodder in hilly areas and training programmes on backyard poultry. Narain Singh representing the Lead Bank, enquired about the activities carried out by KVK Kathua for doubling the farmer’s income. The proceedings of the meeting were conducted by Dr. Vishal Mahajan whereas Dr. Berjesh Ajrawat SMS, Extension Education presented the vote of thanks to the members for their valuable suggestions. The Programme was organized by the active participation of Dr. Pawan K. Sharma, Dr. Vijay K. Sharma, Dr. Saurav Gupta, Dr. Ajay Kumar, Bharat Bhushan and Vijay Kumar.
