KATHUA: Lohri and Makarsankranti was celebrated at Kartar Public School with lot of exuberance and fanfare. The mood on the campus was upbeat and the students were totally absorbed in the festive spirit of Lohri. The function started with speeches in English and Punjabi highlighting the importance of the festival of Lohri, which ushers in the cheerful spring season bidding adieu to the dull winter.
The students and teachers sang songs immersed in rich cultural folklore of Punjab. Principal Mamta Agarwal greeted the students and encouraged them to value their cultural heritage. She said Lohri was a mark of a new beginning and students should pledge to make the year fruitful in all possible ways.
All the students and teachers took part in the celebrations enthusiastically. The programme kicked off with Lohri Poojan. Principal, Chairman Nirmaljit Singh AMN, Secretary Harpreet Kaur along with all other teachers worshipped ‘Dhooni’ and groundnuts and sweets were also distributed among the students. A colourful programme was held on this occasion, in which KPS Juniors presented poems and dances while other students presented Punjabi ‘Boliyaan’, Punjabi folk songs, Lohri songs and poems. Chairman Nirmaljit Singh praised the staff and students for their sincere efforts regarding the celebration.
