JAMMU: Several wards falling under Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) continue to paint a dirty picture of the SMART city even after the poll results are declared.
Due to presence of king size posters of contesting candidates, election campaign material, and wall graffiti on the walls of city of temples the whole idea of projecting face of SMART city Jammu has been defeated even before the completion of election process of JMC Mayor.
Several wards falling under Jammu west Assembly constituency are worst affected.
In the run up to the Municipal polls different party candidates campaigned in support of converting the city of temples into SMART city but even after winning these crucial polls many winning candidates have failed to act responsibly by keeping the environs clean.
Though heaps of election campaign material has been cleared from several areas of the city by the anti encroachment wing of JMC and in many parts volunteers of contesting candidates have also removed such material but there is no dearth of areas which still remain untouched from this cleanliness drive.
It appears winning candidates in these areas are awaiting election of Mayor candidate before taking concrete steps on ground zero.
As per the existing rules any one found guilty of defacing walls and pasting stickers, buntings, bill boards are liable for hefty penalty but JMC authorities have failed to book any defaulter.
If JMC authorities had taken strict action against these candidates they would have removed the election campaign material by now.
