STATE TIMES NEWS POONCH: The daily passengers of Poonch – Mendhar route on Wednesday held a strong protest at Bus Stand Poonch against the authorities who are kind to the Sumo operators and cruel to the passengers allowing a vehicle with capacity of seven passengers to carry 16 passengers and invite tragedies. They said that frequent incidents of accidents on this single and risky road have not moved the authorities including Traffic Police, Local police and Motor Vehicle Department to check the defaulters and save the precious lives. The protesters said that due to non-availability of sufficient vehicles on this route, the government employees, students and other passengers who do not have any other option to reach their place of work or study on time, have to board available vehicle ignoring their inconvenience and the operators push them in because they are very confident of the sympathy of the concerned departments. They further said that since the posting out of IG Traffic Basant Rath, the vehicle operators have become bold enough to violate the traffic norms. Former Principal Mohd Amin, Headmaster Taj Mir, Taj Hussain, Ravi Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Ravinder Singh, Munir Hussain and teacher Jyoti Sharma have appealed to the District Development Commissioner Poonch Rahul Yadav, SSP Romesh Angral, SP Traffic Rural Mohan Lal Kaith and ARTO Poonch Samrinder Singh Jamwal for exercising strict check against overloading of passengers so as to save the precious human lives. They also requested for taking the remedial measures to depute addition passenger vehicles on Poonch – Mendhar road.
