STATE TIMES NEWS BILLAWAR: Former Minister and President DCC Kathua Dr Manohar Lal Sharma on Tuesday met various delegations of Khair farmers from Kandi belt of District Kathua who apprised him about the burning issue of their pending payment against their crops since 2 years. While listening to their grievances Dr Sharma said Khair farmers were much relieved after the Supreme Court of India has lifted ban on felling of ‘green- Khair’ trees after 20 years thus allowing the farmers to cut down their trees for sale as Khair is main source of livelihood to Kandi farmers of jammu region especially Distts Kathua , Samba and Hiranagar but said The Khair-wood farmers in Kandi belt of Jammu region is facing Government apathy. He further lambasted ex MLA Dr NIrmal Singh and Former Forest Minister Ch. Lal Singh for further exploiting the Khair Farmers of Kandi Belt for their personnel interest. Dr Sharma said the BJP only talks about farmers but on ground reality they do nothing for them and said anti farmer policies of BJP are today responsible for plight of farmers in the state and the country. Sharma requested the Governor to look into the matter on priority basis so that the poor farmers get their payments failing to which farmers will come on roads for mass agitation for which government and administration will be responsible. Kulbir Singh, Thoru Ram, Chamel Singh, Samber Singh, Gulam Nabi and Mohd Hussain were also present.
