STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: An interaction-cum-presentation programme with the students/scholars on topic ‘Know your police and career counselling’ was organized by Department of Students Welfare in collaboration with Directorate of Physical Education. On the occasion, Tajinder Singh, SSP, Jammu was the main speaker. Prof Shailendra Singh Jamwal, Dean Students Welfare delivered welcome address. The programme was followed by an interactive session of Tejinder Singh with the gathering. Singh was very forthcoming about the public perception of police and asked the students to interact candidly with him. He said that he would not shy away from the ills infesting the police department but would bear the responsibility for it and try to bring about a definite positive the change but there is also another face of the police force-that of sacrifice. J&K being a terrorism ridden State, every hour a policeman is laying down his life to ensure our peace, he added. He acquainted the students with the history of JKP and also spoke on the nature of the job that demands a 24×7 commitment on part of the police force. He also spoke about the public perception of police. He shared that it is based as much on rumor and gossip as on reality. He further added that that there has been an active drive within the Police Department to plug the various loopholes of the system and very soon the public will see a positive change in the functioning and dealing of the police department. The presentation was followed by an interaction of the students and faculty with the officers. Many students shared their bitter sweet experiences and asked about various aspects of the working of police. Sandeep Gupta, SP Domana and Dr Sunniya Wani, SDPO, Gandhi Nagar answered various queries raised by the students. Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Physical Education acquainted the gathering with such upcoming programmes that would be organized by Department of Students Welfare and Directorate of Physical Education aimed at sensitizing the students to various aspects of the society. Dr Garima Gupta, Assistant Dean (SW) presented vote of thanks. The programme was conducted by IfraKak, Cultural Officer (SW).The programme was also attended by Prof B K Bajaj (Associate Dean, SW), Dr Pallavi Sachdeva, Rajkumar, Vikas, Ravish, Dr Bali, Harvinder Pal Singh, P.D Singh, Jai Bharat and Vinod Sharma. The hall was managed by Sunny Singh and Anoop Singh. Sound was handled by Arif and Kulbhushan Thakur.
