JAMMU: J K Public School Panjtirthi celebrated International Day of Older People to educate the Jakians about issues which affects the elders as well as to appreciate their contribution towards the society.
The Principal of the School, Suman Banbah delivered a talk to the Jakians to teach them how they should focus on the health care of their elderly people as healthy and active elderly person is an asset for the nation.
She explained that elderly people must not be ignored. We should cater to their physical, emotional and social needs.
She added that parents never leave children on their own but children find it hard to accept the fact that there are times when parents want to feel the love that they once shared with them.
“Every parent wants to see his/her child growing and be successful but on the other hand certain children treat them like an unnecessary load on their responsibilities. We should think on moral grounds that why do we tend to forget that the reason we are in this world is our parents, the reason we are alive is our parents and the hands who made us walk is our parents but when the time comes to show the respect and reciprocate the love to our parents then why the youth becomes insensitive,” she said.
She added our parents deserve our respect as they have made countless sacrifices, cared and nurtured us through our infancy and childhood, protected us through physical illnesses and the emotional stresses of growing up. “They are the treasure of experience. Out of every 10 elderly couple in India, more than six are forced by children to leave their homes. With no place to go and all hopes lost , the elderly have to resort to old age homes.
Today the Old Age Homes hold a story with same gist of agony, neglect and pain. The irony is inevitable. People pray to be blessed with children, only to suffer callous neglect and abandonment in their twilight years,” she maintained.
