JAMMU: Seeking declaration of State holiday on 26th October on Accession Day in place of 13th July which continued to be shamelessly commemorated in the name of so called Kashmir Martyr’s Day in J and K as Gazetted State holiday with full State honours in the BJP partnered Coalition Government, scores of Panthers Party activists staged a protest spearheaded by Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP and other senior leaders at Exhibition Ground, here on Thursday.

The protestors expressing their indignation over the treacherous compromises made by the BJP besides its craven surrender before the PDP for the sake of power, burnt its effigy amid raising anti-Govt. slogans.
Referring to the infamous episode of mutiny on 13th July, 1931 in Kashmir which was followed by a large scale incidents of arson, loot and sectarian carnage when 21 rebels who had incited sedition and public outrage against the Maharaja’s (Dogra) rule were killed by the police for restoring law and order, Harsh wondered about the treacherous retreat of the BJP on the observance of 13th July as Martyr’s Day and reminisced the good old opposition days when the saffron party celebrated it as a black day.
He said that while the rebels of 13th July were glorified as martyrs, the BJP partnered dispensation turned a blind eye to the supreme sacrifices of the valiant soldiers of State. Admonishing the Saffron Party for its treachery by playing a second fiddle to its coalition partner in egregiously enlarging the scope of discrimination to the revered martyrs of Jammu, Singh said that how one could forget the supreme sacrifice of Brigadier Rajinder Singh who laid down his life on 26th October 1947 while restraining and preventing the Pak sponsored Kabailis from entering Srinagar. Should 26th October, the day of martyrdom of Brigadier Rajinder Singh, be treated as martyr day to commemorate Brigadier Rajinder Singh’s Supreme sacrifice or 13th July when rebels waging a war against Maharaja’s rule were killed, questioned Harsh seeking a statement from the saffron flavoured government.
He added that Brigadier Rajinder Singh’s martyrdom had paved way for the accession of J and K with the Indian Union on the same day when Maharaja Hari Singh signed the historic Instrument of Accession while showcasing his allegiance to the nation. Singh demanded that 26th October should be declared as a State holiday and the holiday on black day of 13th July be abolished and obliterated in the interest of the State and the country.
He said that all the jingoistic harangues and chauvinistic rants of the BJP have fallen flat turning into mere hyperboles after its ascendance to power with its despicable surrender over the nationalistic concern. He asserted that the flagrant disregard for the martyrs and glorification of rebels, secessionists and anti-nationals shall not be tolerated by the Panthers Party.
