JAMMU: Accusing the State Government and BJP in particular of politicising the Civil and Police Administration to quell the voice of the JKNPP and other opposition parties, scores of Panthers activists spearheaded by Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP, Yash Paul Kundal State President Young Panthers and other leaders staged a protest at Exhibition Ground, here on Monday.
The protestors raised anti-government slogans and charged BJP for promoting its political interests by trampling upon democratic rights of opposition parties.
They raised slogans against Dy CM Nirmal Singh for abusing the Civil and Police Administration for harassing and intimidating opposition party workers especially of district Udhampur.
Addressing the media, Harsh said that while the separatists and subversive elements were being pampered and given open field to propagate their secessionist ideology in Kashmir, the nationalist forces and opposition parties were being tormented and suppressed with criminal cases being registered against them for holding political rallies and meetings.
He recalled that the District Administration Udhampur with a nefarious motive to sabotage the public meetings of Panthers Party, imposed sec 144 CrPC in entire Tehsils of Basantgarh and Latti where the functions were scheduled to be held on October 15 and 16 .
He said that hundreds of police men had been deployed in the aforesaid two Tehsils to thwart the said meetings which had been organised by several Panchayats to felicitate him for his contributions and his persistent struggle for the cause of the people even after ceasing to be MLA.
He further accused the Assistant Commissioner Udhampur (Revenue) of playing stooge in the hands of some corrupt and disgruntled BJP leaders on whose behest a District officer scuttled the democratic rights of opposition by issuing such prohibitory orders without any justification.
“Earlier on 28th Dec, 2016 prohibitory orders were issued under sec 144 CrPC in village Bharnara of Tehsil Majalta where Panthers party had announced a public rally. Likewise prohibitory orders were issued for debarring JKNPP workers from holding meetings in village Sunater and Marta in August 2017 where huge re-enforcements of police contingents were deployed and officers instructed to thwart the rallies of Panthers party”, Harsh rued.
Flaying the blatant and brazen display of authoritarianism of the Saffron brigade, Harsh expressed his dismay over JDA for moving an application for registration of an FIR against State Congress leaders for holding a protest demonstration to commemorate ‘Black Day’ on November 8 against demonetisation at Hari Singh Park Jammu.
“The JDA authorities in the application had inculpated the leaders for trespassing into a public park and forcefully trampling on the flowers”, Harsh said while dubbing it as a panic reaction of the BJP.
Singh divulged the reports were doing rounds that the FIR plea had been submitted in the concerned police station on behalf of Dy. Chief Minister who was unnerved due to exposure of mis-deeds of BJP ministers and MLAs.
He said that such moves of the BJP had exposed its intentions of suppressing the voice of the opposition parties which unveiled the Saffron party for its corruption betrayals and failures.
Harsh urged upon the Governor to take serious cognisance of the obnoxious politicization of Civil and Police Administration, which at the behest of corrupt BJP leaders were hell bent to sabotage the political functions of the Panthers Party and other opposition parties to subvert the democratic rights and aspirations of the people.
Seeking probe and appropriate action against the corrupt ministers and its puppet officers, he said that such acts of oppression by the ruling clique had led to resentment of the people who had lost faith in the credibility of the State Government.
Asserting that Panthers Party shall continue to oppose and expose the government for ill governance, political mismanagement, corruption and administrative breakdown, Kundal said that JKNPP workers could not be cowed down by the nefarious designs of the corrupt politicians in the government. He said that the mandated leaders of Jammu had surrendered before their coalition partner on crucial issues and pushed Jammu to terminal decline for which the Dogras would never forgive BJP for its sins.
