JAMMU: A Junior Engineer (JE) of Rural Engineering Wing of Block Mungri District Udhampur was nabbed red handed by the State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) on Saturday while demanding and accepting bribe.
On the basis of a complaint, lodged by Pyara Singh, son of Sobha Ram resident of Prand Tehsil Mungri district Udhampur, an FIR 18/17 was registered under Section 5(1)(d) read with Section 5(2) of J&K P.C Act and Section 4-A P.C Act (Amended-2014) against Sunil Gupta, son of Kishori Lal Gupta, resident of Talab Sailan Udhampur JE in Rural Engineering Wing Block Mungri District Udhampur.
The complainant Pyara Singh alleged that he had worked as facilitator, nominated by Gramsewak Block Mongri for execution of work from November 2016 to December 2016 at Prand Tehsil Mongri District Udhampur.
JE Sunil Gupta demanded Rs 55,000 from him for payment of the amount against the execution of the work done by him. Of the total demanded amount, Rs.20,000 was already paid by the complainant to JE Sunil Gupta and Rs.10,000 through his son, Anil Singh.
He further alleged that JE Sunil Gupta forced him that he would not be provided government cement for undergoing work which was underway since February 2017 till he paid remaining amount of Rs.25,000.
Accordingly, on the basis of the complaint, a successful trap was laid by the Vigilance sleuths under the supervision of Dy SP Kamaljeet Singh and JE Sunil Gupta was caught red handed while demanding and accepting Rs.25000, as illegal gratification from Anil Singh, son of the complainant.
After completing all necessary formalities the JE was arrested for further legal action. Investigation of the case has been set in motion.
