Worried parents lodge protest
JAMMU: Worried about the well being of their wards, parents of those players from Jammu trapped in Srinagar on Monday held protest demonstration after the government failed to do anything with regard to their return back home.
Angry over just ‘lip service’ from the Minister for Sports, Raman Bhalla regarding airlifting of around 80 under-19 boys and girls, parents could not control their anger and blocked the Tawi Bridge amidst demonstration at Bikram Chowk, here.
However, these protesting parents called off their protest only after the Deputy Commissioner, Jammu personally visited them assuring safety and early return of the players.
“We were assured of a positive outcome today by the Minister for Sports, Raman Bhalla during a visit to latter’s residence yesterday, but nothing has been done so far. We are a worried lot as the players are short of food and other essentials. So, we pray to the government for early return of our wards,” said one of the protesting parents.
Pertinent to mention here that these under-19 boys and girls were taken to Srinagar by the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) in connection with state level competitions in the disciplines of Judo, Wrestling, Badminton, Kick Boxing, Thang Ta and Skay Martial Arts.
