HIRANAGAR: Hiranagar Zone and Marheen Zone lifted respective under-17 and under-14 football titles in the ongoing inter-zone tournament, organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports in the disciplines of football and badminton for under-14 and 17 years girls at Sports Stadium Hiranagar and at Infant Jesus Higher Secondary School Hiranagar respectively.
Today’s matches were officiated by Avnesh Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Raju, Uttam Singh, Sanjay Kumar, Sanjay Sharma and Sandeep Sharma.
Others present were Zonal Physical Education Officer Marheen Kailash Chander, Narender Kumar Choudhary, Sanjeev Sunny, Sohan Singh, Omkar Singh, Kewal Krishan and Rajat Sharma.
FOOTBALL: Under-17: Hiranagar Zone trounced Sallan Zone by 3-0 goals in the final. Earlier, Sallan Zone outplayed Marheen Zone by 2-0 goals. Under-14: Marheen Zone thrashed Sallan Zone by 2-0 goals in final. Earlier, Sallan outplayed Hiranagar by 2-0 goals.
BADMINTON: Under-17: Singles: Niketa Raina of Hiranagar defeated Bitu of Sallan by 2-0 sets. Doubles: Sonia and Rajini of Sallan Zone defeated Pallavi and Kannu of Hiranagar by 2-0 sets. Reverse Singles: Pallavi of Hiranagar outplayed Sonia of Sallan by 2-0 sets.
Under-14: Singles: Kamini Jasrotia of Marheen defeated Sonia Devi of Sallan by 2-1 sets. Doubles: Sonia and Payal of Sallan trounced Khushboo and Gouri of Marheen Zone by 2-0 sets. Reverse Singles: Robina Begam of Marheen registered win over Payal of Sallan by 2-1 sets.
