JAMMU: Physical Education Department strengthen its position by winning back to back matches in the ongoing Inter-departmental Cricket Tournament of University of Jammu (JU), organised by Campus Sports Committee, on the campus ground, here on Thursday.
In the first match, Physical Education Department outplayed Urdu Department by 26 runs.
Batting first, Physical Education set a target of 83 runs for three wickets in 10 overs. Sajid remained top scorer with 29 runs off 23 balls (1×4, 1×6) while Pankaj and Jeevan contributed 19 and 10 runs respectively. For Urdu Department, Haq Nawaz and Mukeet shared one wicket each.
In reply, Urdu Department failed to chase the target and managed to score only 57 runs for the loss of six wickets and 10 overs. Partab was the top scorer with 28 runs while Haq Nawaz made 10.
For Physical Education, Sajid claimed two wickets while Sanjeev, Jeevan and Varun took one each.
In another match, Physical Education Department registered comfortable nine-wicket win over Geography Department.
Earlier, Geography Department batting first after winning the toss made 63 runs in 12 overs for the loss of ten wickets. Sunam and Ved Parkash made 17 and 11 runs respectively. For Physical Education, Sushil, Muneeb and Aman shared two wickets while Shubam took one.
Later, Physical Education overhauled the opponent total making 67 runs in 7.1 overs for the loss of one wicket. Shubam was the top scorer with 39 runs off 20 balls (5×4,2×6) followed by Aman, who added 16 runs.
Inzmam took a lone wicket for Geography Department.
In last match of the day, School of Hospitality & Tourism Management (SHTM) defeated Political Science by seven wickets.
Earlier, batting first, Political Science made 90 runs losing six wickets in 12 overs. Sajid played fine innings of 39 runs coming off just 18 deliveries studded with five fours and two sixes. Akhil (13) and Narinder (10) were other main scorers. For SHTM, Anirudh and Yogesh shared two wickets each while Barinder Singh took one.
In reply, SHTM chased the target making 92 runs for the loss of three wickets in 11 overs.
Rakesh with 24, Satvik 17 and Sajan 14 runs remained top scorers.
Narinder picked two wickets while Sajid claimed one for Political Science.
Today’s matches were officiated by Amandeep Singh, Vijay Kumar, Rajkumar Bakshi, Sat Paul, Sadiq Hussain and Aman Singh.
