STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Former MLC and Trustee J&K Dharmarth Trust, Vikramaditya Singh urged Governor Satya Pal Malik to install the 20-feet tall statue of the founder of royal Dogra dynasty and first Maharaja of the princely State of Jammu and Kashmir Maharaja Gulab Singh, prepared by famous sculptor and Dogra Ratan Awardee Ravinder Jamwal at Lakhanpur, the entry point of Jammu and Kashmir State. In an appeal to Governor, former MLC said that the majestic statue of Maharaja Gulab Singh sitting on his horse with a sword in his hand with a cost of over Rs 70 lakh is reportedly completed for installation and necessary instructions should be issued so that the statue could be installed at the specified site in Lakhanpur which has been already decided by the concerned authorities. Remembering the legacy of Maharaja Gulab Singh, he said his contribution in making of Jammu and Kashmir State and expanding the boundaries of India is incredible and needs to be commemorated by means of such endeavours so that world may know the legacy and valour of the people of this region. He urged Governor to intervene and asked the concerned quarters to remove all the bottlenecks which are hampering the process of installing Maharaja Gulab Singh’s statue at Lakhanpur despite the fact that statue is ready for installation. Appreciating Governor Satya Pal Malik’s proactive approach in mitigating people’s grievances, he said that this issue also holds significance and his Excellency should do the needful to ensure that the aforesaid statue is installed at Lakhanpur signifying the bravery and heroism of people of Duggar land.
