JAMMU: The three-day conference of Indian International Model United Nations (IIMUN) which began on 5th May, concluded at Heritage School, here on Sunday.
Model United Nations is a simulation of the United Nations allowing students to step into the shoes of today’s diplomats. Delegates are placed in committees and assigned countries, or occasionally other organisations or political figures, where they represent members of that body.
The students donned the mantle of ambassadors, conducted research before conferences and formulated positions that they then debated with their fellow delegates in the committee, staying true to the actual position of the member they represented.
The delegates were provided an excellent platform for brainstorming and discussing international issues. This year about 150 delegates from top schools of the State debated, discussed, caucused and wrote resolutions on their topics. They were judged on their ability to negotiate, think and listen, awareness of international politics and their country’s foreign policy.
The Executive Board of each committee awarded its winners Best Delegate, High Commendation and Special Mention Awards. The Principal of the host School, Jagadish Singh Dhami was all praise for the participants for making the occasion a true learning curve as well as hoped for sustained continuity of IIMUN in the coming years.
