KATRA: The strike call by the Safai Karamcharis of Municipal Committee leaves the holy town of Katra un-cleaned on the occasion of Diwali Festival.
The Safai Karamcharis who have not received their salary for the last 3 – 4 months said that they have made several requests demanding salaries but authorities failed to address their issue. They said that their families are on the brink of starvation and it has become difficult for them to run their kitchens in the absence of salary. They rued that the Government has sufficient funds to clear the salary bills of politicians and bureaucrats but when the issue of Safai Karamcharis’ salaries comes the helmsmen claim that government is facing financial crunch. The Safai karamcharis said that they were left with no alternative but to suspend the work to highlight their plea.
According to Executive Officer Municipal Committee Sanjeev Gandotra a deputation of Safai Karamcharis led by Kala and Bhaduru met the Director Local Bodies Soujanya Sharma in his presence and demanded payment of pending salary. The Director assured the deputation that their salary will be released soon and that they resume their duty immediately. On the assurance of Director, the Safai Karamcharis have agreed to attend their duties from Wednesday.
