JAMMU: Ahead of the festival of Eid, the security forces have been put on a state of high alert, especially across the Kashmir Valley, as one of the groups of infiltrated Jaish-e-Mohammad cadre is still at large awaiting opportunity to strike.
According to official sources, a group of six to seven heavily armed terrorists may target security forces before Eid to send a clear message to the security establishment that despite losing cadre they are still active and equipped with lethal power to hit back at time and place of their own choosing.
In the wake of these serious developments, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, who was supposed to take a call over continuation of ceasefire, is finding himself, especially in the wake of escalated terror violence during the last couple of days.
So far over 20 incidents of grenade attacks have been reported in different parts of Kashmir since the beginning of holy month of Ramzan, resulting in killing of two cops and injuries to 60 people.. On the other hand, 35 infiltrators and terrorists were gunned down by the security forces along the Line of Control and in the hinterland.
Over four dozen incidents of intense and mild stone pelting were reported from different districts of South Kashmir. In the light of these incidents it will be difficult for the Union Home Minister to take a final call over the issue of ceasefire ahead of start of Amarnathji Yatra.
As of now, in the absence of any specific intelligence inputs, the joint teams of security forces are gearing up their men and machinery to hold peaceful and event free yatra this year. The paramilitary forces have been directed to start mapping general areas under their jurisdiction and pin-point locations which need fool proof security arrangements.
The biggest challenge for the security forces in the coming days would be to secure different base camps along the 400 km long yatra route from Lakhanpur to Pahalgam and Baltal. Adequate number of Rakshak vehicles have been requisitioned for the yatra duty, in addition to over 20,000 paramilitary forces for area domination along the route.
