STATE TIMES NEWS BHADARWAH: After witnessing rains since last two days, plains of Bhadarwah, Kishtwar, Gandoh and Doda also witnessed fresh snowfall of the season. After higher reaches of entire Chenab Valley and surrounding villages of Bhadarwah town experienced heavy snowfall since last 2 days. Bhadarwah town was also experiencing heavy snowfall since last night, dipping mercury to the lowest level of the season so far and throwing normal life out of gear in this high altitude area of the State. Much to the delight of their eyes, people of Bhadarwah Valley woke up on Tuesday morning to experience snowflakes and accumulation of snow around them. Although common people in general and those associated with Agriculture, Horticulture and Tourism industry in particular were beaming with joy and satisfaction but heavy snowfall has triggered extreme cold wave conditions in Bhadarwah and adjoining Gandoh Valley forcing the dwellers to wear warm clothes and to lit up bonfires and traditional ‘Bukharis’ (fire place) to keep themselves warm against extreme chill of fresh snow and cold wave. Due to heavy snowfall, Bhadarwah-Doda road remained blocked for the traffic. Batote-Doda-Kishtwar National Highway was also closed due to landslides at several areas. Electricity and water supply also got affected in entire Chenab Valley. However Mechanical Department has started snow clearance on internal link roads of Bhadarwah. Meanwhile DDC Doda Anshul Garg has issued an advisory regarding weather and appealed people especially residing on slopes to remain indoors for next 36 hours until weather improves. The surroundings of Bhadarwah valley which include Ashapati ,Seoj Dhar, Kailash Kund, Shankhoja, Dugga, Kansar, Padri, Subar Dhar and Jai witnessed 2 to 4 feet of fresh snowfall while Bhadarwah and Gandoh towns recorded 1. 5 feet. Doda and Kishtwar towns received 2-3 inches of snowfall. According to reports, higher reaches of Kishtwar, Doda, Ramban, Banihal and Gandoh including Padder, Marwah, Sinthan Top, Mughal Maidan, Dessa, Gurmal, Siraj, Tanta, Gandri, Kabbi, Neel Top, Mahu, Mangat, Kharri, Gool and other higher reaches received heavy snowfall since last 2 days. As the last reports came in, more than 200 hundred District Doda and Kishtwar bound passengers are stranded on Batote-Doda-Kishtwar National Highway near Batote due to slippery road conditions as according to some stranded passengers snow was not cleared on the 9 Km stretch of the road. Meanwhile, MET Department has predicted no improvement in weather for next 36 hours.
