JAMMU: The Gurpurab of Guru Hargobind was celebrated with religious fervour here on Thursday.
In this connection a grand samagam was organised by District Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (DGPC) Jammu at Gurdwara Chatti Patshai, Talab Tillo. Thousands of Sikh devotees including men, women and children attended the Samagam.
Prominent Sikh preachers Bhai Sarabjit Singh Dhotian and Bhai Parampal Singh Sabra threw light on the life history and teachings of Guru Hargobind, the only son of Guru Arjan Sahib, who became Guru at the young age of eleven.
Sant Tejwant Singh Ji of Santpura Danna, Sikh preacher of Jammu and Kashmir elaborated the life and achievements of Guru Hargobind and stressed for Amritdhari and drugs free society. He said that Guru Hargobind was the only Sikh Guru who visited J&K including Jammu, Rajouri, Nowshera, Srinagar and Baramulla adding that the Sikh Gurus have preached humanism, brotherhood and they fought throughout their lives against the tyrant rulers.
Hazoori Raagi Sri Darbar Sahib, Amritsar, Bhai Devinder Singh and many local Raagi Jathas of DGPC recited Gurbani Kirtan.
Avtar Singh Khalsa, General Secretary, DGPC Jammu stressed on maintaining unity and discipline while celebrating Gurpurabs and other historical days by all community members.
Jathedar Mohinder Singh, President, Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) and Member DGPC Jammu presented resolutions concerning various burning demands of Sikh community in J&K.
Tarlochan Singh Wazir, Chairman, State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board appealed to the Sikh community to follow the teachings of Guru Hargobind.
On the occasion, Chabeel was established outside the Gurdwara premises to serve sweetened water among the people. Guru Ka Langar was also served among the devotees.
Advocate Surinder Singh, Surjit Singh, Bhai Gurdev Singh, Manmohan Singh, Kuldeep Singh, Mohinder Singh-Akhnoor, Harjinder Singh Raina, Narinder Singh Khalsa, Balwant Singh, Ranjodh Singh Nalwa, Sukhdev Singh, Ranjit Singh and Manjit Singh were also present.
