JAMMU: A Religious Samagam was held on Saturday in the Gurdwara Chhati Patshahi, Talab Tillo Jammu on the occasion of Shaheedi Gurpurab of 5th Guru Arjan Dev Ji.
Raagi Jathas of DGPC Jammu recited Gurbani Kirtan while Parcharak Satinder Singh and Chairman State Gurdwara Parbandhak Board T. S Wazir threw light on the life history of Guru Arjan Dev Ji. They said that Guru Arjun Dev Ji besides creating the example of highest order of Martyrdom for the noble causes of truth, righteousness, freedom of belief and resistance of tyranny, has bestowed upon the universe one of the wonders with four doors open for all the four Varnas -‘Darbar Sahib Amritsar’ and a unique holy scripture – ‘Sri Guru Granth Sahib’ which has a universal appeal adding that Guru Ji was paragon of patience and thankfulness to Almighty and recited ‘Tera Bhana Meetha Laage’.
On this occasion the DGPC honoured Dr Manvinder Singh youngest Scientist, Amandeep Kour KCS Judicial and Japleen Kour. Guru Ka Langar was also distributed among Sangat.
Meanwhile an impressive Kirtan Darbar was also held on this occasion at Gurdwara Baba Chanda Singh Ji. Besides religious Smagam the Gurdwara Committee in association with Nirvair Social Organisation organized Guru Ka Langar and sweetened water (Chhabeel) for the Sangat as well as for general public.
Raagi Jathas of Bhai Ranjeet Singh, Bhai Tirath Singh and Bibi Nirmal Kour recited Kirtan and highlighted the biography of Guru Sahib. Sukhbir Singh in his address highlighted some of the demands which include declaring the day as holiday, naming Kunjwani Chowk after Baba Banda Singh Bahadur, appointing Punjabi teachers for promoting Punjabi language and finalizing the one time settlement of compensation to DPs of 1947.
