SRINAGAR: Terrorists shot dead a civilian, believed to be a Hurriyat leader in Sopore township of Baramulla district while unidentified gunmen killed a terrorist belonging to the ‘Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind’ – an affiliate of al-Qaeda in the Valley led by Zakir Musa here on Saturday.
Terrorists fired upon the civilian in Bomai area of Sopore this afternoon, a police official said, adding that the civilian – Hakim-ur-Rehman, a resident of Reshipora Bomai – received critical bullet injuries in the attack.
The injured was evacuated to the nearby hospital for medical attention where he succumbed to injuries, the official said.
Police have registered a case in this regard and investigation in the instant matter has been initiated, he said.
The so-called Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik expressed their extreme shock on brutal killing of Hakeem-ur-Rehman.
Condemning the ‘gruesome’ murder, they said that Hakeem-ur-Rehman (45) was released from the jail recently after 20 months of incarceration, according to a Srinagar based news agency.
The JRL constituted a high level committee to visit the location and gather details about the gruesome killing of the Hurriyat leader.
Meanwhile, unidentified gunmen, suspected to be ultras, shot dead a terrorist belonging to the ‘Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind’ – an affiliate of al-Qaeda in the Valley led by Zakir Musa – here on Saturday, police said.
The gunmen fired upon a youth in the Hazratbal area of the city here, resulting in his on the spot death, a police official said.
He said the youth has been identified as Asif Nazir Dar, a resident of the Panzgam area of Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
Dar was an active terrorist associated with the Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) but later defected to Musa-led Ansar Gazwat-ul-Hind, the official said.
He said a pistol and two magazines were recovered from the slain terrorist.
An Al-Qaeda affiliated Global Islamic Media Front had on July 27, 2017, announced Musa as the head of the Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind. Zakir Rashid Bhat alias Zakir Musa is a former commander of the HM.
Later, suspected terrorists on Saturday night shot at and injured a woman in Pulwama district, police said.
Unidentified terrorists fired upon a woman, Simran Jan, at Murran Chowk in the south Kashmir district, a police official said. He said Jan works at a beauty parlour in the area.
She was taken to a hospital where from she was referred to the Bone and Joint Hospital here for specialised treatment, the official said.
