STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Former Minister and senior NC leader Ajay Sadhotra expressed concern over loss of harvested paddy crop lying in fields due to heavy rains in Jammu region. While interacting with a delegation of farmers here, Sadhotra said that farmers are already facing a lot of miseries due to ever highest cost of farming and declining agriculture economy. Now it is an acid test for the BJP Government to prove their concern for farmers by declaring 100 per cent loss and full compensation for them, he added. “If left to insurance companies under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Yojana, they will be exploited, mislead and misguided,” he said, adding that farmers never get an insurance certificate by insurance companies. They don’t know for how much amount their crop has been insured and what will be the mode of compensation payment in case of damage, he said. Sadhotra appealed to the government to declare 100 per cent loss of paddy crop besides ensuring that farmers get adequate compensation for damage to harvested and standing crops. “If Kissans are not given compensation, they will face many difficulties, as they are fully dependent on crops for their needs. Moreover, it will be very difficult for Kissans to sow wheat crop,” he said.
