STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Expressing concern over continuous apathy of the State and Central Governments towards general category people, the General Category People’s Forum (GCPF) on Wednesday said that general category people have been ignored socially, economically and politically by the Governments. In a meeting held here, Raj Kumar Banathia (Chairman of the Forum) said that all political parties, before elections, made tall claims and promises to general category people to ensure ‘Sab Ka Vikas’ but forget everything after coming to power. He accused political leadership of the country of playing with the emotions of people by raking up issue of caste-based reservation before elections, just for political gains at the cost of fundamental principles of equality, justice, liberty and dignity. Yash Paul Sanson, President of the Forum, said that the Forum will oppose all such political parties, which have been advocating and promoting cynical minoritism, communalism, pseudo-secularism and appeasement policies since 1950 and harmed interests of general category people. Som Nath Sharma, General Secretary, said that the forum would extend its support to the party, which will ensure correction of injustice pertaining to the marginalisation and discrimination with general category people through caste based reservations. He demanded that political parties must speak about equality and equal opportunities, and said that general category people have never got what was their legitimate due in political process. V K Sharma, Vice President demanded delimitation of Assembly constituencies based on criteria laid down by People’s Representation Act in J&K. He stressed upon all political parties to ensure reservation on economic criteria besides debarring all tax-payers from availing benefits of reservations. Deepak Khajuria, Bhushan Pargal, Vivek Kumar and Kuldeep Verma demanded stipend for employed youth, free health care facilities for senior-citizens and enhancement of medical allowance from Rs 300 to 3,000 per month for government employees and pensioners. The Forum warned all political parties against exploitation of people on caste and religion, and demanded total abolition of reservation and political reservation under Articles 330 and 332.
