STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Achieving a big milestone under leadership of Advisor (K) and Principal Secretary to H&ME Department J&K and with continuous efforts of Principal & Dean, GMC Jammu, Dr Sunanda Raina, the Government Medical College Jammu has been recognised for award of MBBS Degree granted by Jammu University against increased intake of 100 to 150 seats. It is worth mentioning here that the Government Medical College Jammu was recognised for intake of only 100 MBBS seats and permitted for additional 50 seats. Now after current notification of Medical Council of India vide endorsement No MCI-37(1) (Recog 54) (UG)/2017-Med./109663 dated May 5, 2019, the MCI recognised Government Medical College Jammu for 150 MBBS seats based on five-year continuous yearly inspections of the institution and finally based on compliance verification report held on April 8, 2019. It is worth mentioning when Dr Sunanda Raina took over as Principal, there was a huge list of pending infrastructural deficiencies pointed by MCI haunting the institution, which she got completed within two years. Further, in the said compliance verification report, the institution under the leadership of Dr Sunanda Raina and a team of various faculty members and officers/officials of the institution and with the full hearted financial support from the Administrative Department from time to time, the Government Medical College, Jammu could meet all deficiencies with regard to human resource, infrastructure, equipments and machinery. Dr Sunanda Raina said that the Principal Secretary to Government, H&ME Department J&K along with Director Finance and Planning wing of the Administrative Department remained instrumental in helping the institution to meet all deficiencies pointed time to time by the Medical Council of India. She thanked one and all including all Head of the Departments, faculty members, residents who cooperated in various inspections conducted by MCI and others who contributed during the journey for achieving this big milestone for the institution, especially the institutional committee of MCI.
