STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: A Division Bench (DB) of State High Court comprising Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Tashi Rabstan in Suo-Moto Public Interest Litigation directed State to give account of measures being taken to preserve and protect the glaciers including the Khardungla glacier in the region. Earlier, the DB observed that Advocate General DC Raina appeared for the official respondents and submitted that he is not satisfied with the instructions which have been received and prayed for time to file a report. Upon this, the DB directed to submit the same within four weeks from today. DB further directed respondents to place before this Court the planning exercise which has been undertaken to ensure that the construction in the Leh and Ladakh areas did not cause any unwarranted strain on the ecology especially in the context of pollution, water, garbage and sewage. DB also directed State shall also deal with the issue relating to the tremendous pressure on the fragile ecology of the region especially with the advent of the tourist season.
