STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: A Division Bench (DB) of State High Court comprising Justice Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Justice Sindhu Sharma on Tuesday directed Secretary Forest Department to consider arranging an amount of Rs. 11 crore to Rs. 12 crore, which is deemed necessary at this stage for furthering the land acquisition proceedings. The court direction came in a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) regarding preservation of Gharana Wetland. After hearing Senior Advocate P.N Raina with J.A Hamal for the petitioner whereas Advocate Karan Sharma for the PIL whereas Senior Additional Advocate General S.S Nanda for the State, the court observed that a status report has been filed by the respondents, in which further six weeks time has been sought with a view to explore the possibility of identification of alternate State land and the willingness of such effective families to accept the alternate site. It was also stated that with a view to take the acquisition proceedings further on, the Wildlife Department be asked to tentatively arrange an amount of Rs. 11 crore to Rs. 12 crore. The DB also directed Secretary Forest Department to submit an affidavit in this regard on or before the next date of hearing.
