Dear Editor, In India, about 1 lakh implants are daily used in surgeries, and many surgeons, including in the government sector, get hefty commission. The modus operandi is to call for kits of various sizes and if the chemist is not known to the surgeon/hospital, the patient has to pay the full price of the kit to the chemist and get refund for the unused (if intact) after the surgery. To hoodwink the patient, he prepares a challan of delivery, without mentioning the MRP (nor it is mentioned on the implant or the carton), discount, name and brand of manufacturer (usually non-popular). Thus, an app is needed for implants, too, besides a procedure should be laid down so that the patient gets these from the chemist of his choice. The Central government should also fix the MRP of all implants, like it has done for cardiac and knee replacement implants. Col Naresh Ghai (Retd), Ludhiana.
