7 security men among 11 injured in Srinagar grenade attack
State Times News Srinagar: Five terrorists were killed on Sunday in an encounter with security forces in Kulgam district, the Army said here. The gunbattle broke out after the terrorists opened fire on a search team of the security forces in the district’s Kellem village this morning, an Army official said. He said five terrorists were killed in the encounter. The identity and group affiliation of the ultras are being ascertained. The killed terrorists have been identified as Waseem Bashir Rather alias Zeeshan of Ashmuji Kulgam, Zahid Parray of Gopal Pora DH Pora Kulgam, Idrees Bhat of Arwani Bijbehara, Aaqib Nazir of Zongal Pora Kulgam and Parvaiz Bhat of Mukdampora Qaimoh Kulgam. Weapons and war-like stores have been recovered from the encounter site, the official added. Clashes between protestors and security forces broke out near the encounter site, a police official said, adding there were no immediate reports of injury to anyone. He said the law enforcing agencies were trying to restore order in the area. Meanwhile, eleven people, including four policemen, three Central Reserve Police Force personnel and four civilians were wounded after suspected terrorists tossed a grenade at the CRPF camp at Pallaidum in Lal Chowk on Sunday evening. A police spokesman said that the terrorists lobbed a grenade at 132 BN CRPF stationed at Palladium in Lal Chowk at 6:45 PM. “Officers attended the crime spot and found that four cops, three CRPF personnel and four civilians were injured in the attack. The injured civilians have been identified as Humaira of Hairwan, Abdul Qayoom of Mandibal Nowshehra, Taliba Gulshan of Dalgate and Shadab Shah resident of Nishat,” said the spokesman. A source identified the injured policemen as Ashiq Ahmed, Abid Ahmed , Muhammad Shafi, and Nasir Ahmed while as CRPF men were identified as ASI R Munaswami, Constable Vishal and Constable Davinder of 132 BN. The area was immediately cordoned off and a massive search launched. “The injured have been shifted to the hospitals for the treatment of their injuries. They are stated to be stable,” said the police spokesman. Police has registered a case in this regard and officers continue to work to establish the full circumstances of the incident, he said. “If you have any information that can assist police in its investigation, you may contact Police,” he said.
