State Times News VIJAYPUR: Police on Monday arrested five persons and recovered approximately 114 kilograms of poppy straw from their possession in Samba and Udhampur. As per the details, on a tip off SDPO Vijaypur S. Baleet Singh constituted a team headed by Inspector Rakesh Bamba SHO Vijaypur Police Station which along with team laid Naka on Jammu Pathnakot National Highway near Raya Morh area of Vijaypur. During the Naka, police intercepted a truck (JK02T- 2581) coming from Kathua, and recovered 52 kilogram of poppy straw from it. The driver of the truck namely Prithpal Singh, son of Chanda Singh, resident of Gagore Vijaypur in District Samba was arrested and a case vide FIR. 41/2019 under section 8/15/60 NDPS Act was registered against him at Police Station Vijaypur. In a similar incident, during the Naka checking in same place, police intercepted another truck (JK02AG- 9781) coming from Kathua. During checking, police recovered 21 kilogram of poppy straw from the cabin of the truck. The accused driver identified as Nirmaljeet son of Harjeet Singh resident of Abtal Ramgarh arrested on spot and a case vide FIR No. 42/2019 under section 8/15 NDPS Act was registered against him at Police Station Vijaypur. Meanwhile, Chenani Police also recovered 41 kgs poppy straw and arrested three persons. SSP Rajiv Pandey said Udhampur police led by SHO Parmjeet Singh under the supervision of Dy SP Santokh Raj, Addl. SP Rajinder Singh Katoch laid a Naka near Motor Shed on Jammu Kashmir National Highway in Udhampur and intercepted two trucks (PB05N-9992 and PB29L-9786). During checking, police recovered 41 kgs poppy straw from both trucks. Three smugglers identified as Satnam Singh son of Darshan Singh resident of Amritsar, Harbanms Singh son of Prem Singh and Gurdeep Singh son of Sohan Singh both residents of Ludhina were arrested a case under section 8/15 NDPS Act was registered against them.
