STATE TIMES NEWS LEH: As a part of ‘Back to Village’ (B2V) programme, Financial Commissioner, Finance Department J&K Dr Arun Kumar Mehta held a meeting with the Panchayat members and villagers of Saboo village here on Monday. Residents expressed serious concern about pollution problem and growing menace of stray dogs due to lack of management at the nearby located garbage dumping ground (Bombgarh). Mehta assured to discuss the matter with Deputy Commissioner, Leh. Two drinking water projects under National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) which is likely to cater to 341 households, is 80 per cent incomplete, updated by the concerned PHE engineers. Mehta told them to complete the remaining work by August 15 and ensure commission of the project. Also, water reservoirs started by Rural Development Department at Saboo-Phu for water storage in winter months for irrigation purpose is incomplete due to lack of funds where Financial Commissioner Mehta suggested for completion of the work through convergence with other departments. However, the villagers expressed satisfaction with the electricity supply. Villagers also demanded for completion of the community play ground to which Mehta gave instructions for completion of the ground levelling to Rural Development Department by July end. He told the villagers to take part in the Panchayat Level Games that includes football, cricket, chess, carom board, kho-kho and other games, scheduled to start in August. Villagers here demanded for inclusion of archery to which he told them to submit their proposal through Council. Later, FC also inspected various major pending projects in Leh including Ice Hockey Rink, Cold Storage Facility and Open Stadium where DC Leh Avny Lavasa and ADDC Leh Moses Kunzang and engineers updated FC about these projects. Reports of successful conduct of B2V programmes at various Panchayat Halqas in all the 16 Blocks of Leh district on the 5th day today have received.
