JOURIAN: Agriculture Department on Tuesday demonstrated paddy drum seeder in presence of Daljit Singh Chib, Minister of State , Vice Chairman J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Kisans in Jourian. Vice Chairman appreciated the efforts of Agriculture Department for demonstration of paddy drum seeder in farmers fields. He said that the present Central Government has set target to double the farmers’ income by 2022 and to achieve it, farmers need to adopt new and advanced technology in agriculture .
He said that paddy drum seeded will not only save time of farmers but also significantly reduce input cost of crop by reducing labour cost which forms major component of input cost in paddy. He said paddy is major crop of Jammu and Kashmir and adopting sowing method by drum seeder will be a major boost to paddy cultivation in State.
The demonstration was carried out on three Kanal land of progressive farmers. Agriculture Extension Officer , Arun Jaral while giving demonstration in field of progressive farmer Rakesh Kumar Sharma , explained to farmers that crop matures at least seven days earlier than normal crop and there is no need of transplanting as pre germinated seeds are sown directly in fields thus saving labour and water also. Also the crop stand is more uniform making the intercultural operations much easier. Large number of local farmers were present to see the demonstration.
