STATE TIMES NEWS KATHUA: Excise Department laid several Nakas for last three consecutive days to ensure complete prohibition on smuggling of liquor. With the onset of Phase-II of General Elections to Lok Sabha 2019, on directions of the Excise Commissioner M Raju, a joint team constituted by the Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive) Jammu, Amarjeet Singh and Deputy Excise Commissioner (Toll Post Lakhanpur), Ashish Kumar Gupta comprising ETO Mohammad Rafi, Excise Range Kathua; ETO Sandeep Gupta (Toll Post Lakhanpur), Inspectors Arun Kumar, Razi Ahmad, Ashwani Sharma and Tariq Aziz; Sub Inspectors Amit Sharma and Sanjeev Kumar and Excise Guards laid Nakas at Jammu Pathankot National Highway for checking of vehicles to ensure complete dry days. “Complete dry days were observed in District Kathua from April 16 to April 18, 2019. Trade-license, wine shops and bars were closed during the last three days. A series of Nakas were laid for three consecutive days to ensure complete prohibition on smuggling of liquor,” an official of Excise Department said. The Excise team conducted several raids in Budhi and Upper Saktachak villages to arrest the menace of illicit distillation. In the process, a total of 700 liters Lahan were recovered by the raiding team from the State land, which was destroyed on the spot.
