KATHUA/AKHNOOR: The Excise Department recovered 1,400 kilograms of Lahan while conducting raids at Kathua and Akhnoor Tehsil on Thursday.
On the directions of the Excise Commissioner, Mohammad Javed Khan and supervision of Deputy Excise Commissioner (Executive), Jammu, Ghanshyam Singh, the Excise Team Kathua led by ETO Excise Range Kathua, Sandeep Gupta, Inspectors Excise Arun Kumar and Shadi Lal and Enforcement and Eradication Wing Jammu along with excise staff raided the Banyari, Sunjwan, Chartyala and Upper Saktachak areas of Kathua District to arrest the menace of illicit distillation of liquor.
In the process more than 1,200 kilograms of Lahan were recovered by the raiding team from the State land.
Meanwhile, the Excise Team Akhnoor led by ETO Excise Range North, Tinna Mahajan and Inspector Excise Sub Range Akhnoor Harish Sharma along with excise staff raided the Sungal, Soul, Migrant Camp and Lower Jad areas of Akhnoor Tehsil and recovered 200 kilograms of Lahan and one working still from the State land. Besides, one person namely Surinder Kour, wife of late Ravinder Singh was arrested for possession of six bottles of illicit liquor.
The respective excise teams destroyed the recovered Lahan on the spot.
