JAMMU: Strike in Samba court entered fifth day on Monday with District and Sessions Judge intervening to resolve the issue, as lawyers are protesting over alleged misbehaviour of Special Mobile Magistrate, Samba Kamiya Singh Andotra.
Kamiya Singh Andotra is daughter of former minister Choudhary Lal Singh.
“As her arrogant behaviour and unparliamentarily language turned to be routine, the women lawyers of Samba court decided to go on strike against her”, said a protesting lawyer, adding that many senior male advocates also lodged complaint with the Bar Association. Accordingly, unanimous decision was taken to suspend the court work, he added. Senior Advocate B S Salathia, President J&K High Court Bar Association said, “There is a code of conduct for judges too. How can she (Kamiya Singh Andotra) misbehave with the lawyers?” “The lawyers having experience more than her age are being harassed is a matter of concern,” he added.
“The matter has been brought to the notice of Chief Justice of J&K,” Advocate Salathia said.
Advocate Jatinder Sharma, President Samba Bar Association, however, said, “The matter has been resolved today after the court work remained suspended for five days.”
“I can’t share more details as I am in a meeting”, Advocate Sharma told STATE TIMES on phone, adding that he will revert back after the meeting, which he didn’t till filing of the story.
Sources said, “Today the Principal Sessions Judge R K Wattal intervened and got the issue resolved”.
Reportedly the Special Mobile Magistrate, Samba Kamiya Singh has apologised to Advocate Indu Kumari, who had taken strong exception to misbehaviour of Lal Singh’s daughter.
It has been learnt that the Special Mobile Magistrate has been advised by her seniors to behave normally with the lawyers as they are important part of the judicial system.
After assurances from Principal Sessions Judge, the Bar Association Samba decided to resume work from Tuesday.
