STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: As a part of ‘Environment Awareness Week’, organised by J&K Rural Sports Club (Jammu based NGO) and R M Public School in association with Social Forestry Jammu, a plantation drive was conducted on the first day, wherein about 550 saplings were planted here. The campaign, dedicated to Guru Nanak Dev on his 550th birth anniversary celebrations in relevance with his nature-friendly philosophy, was declared open by the Regional Director Social Forestry Jammu at R M Public school, Chowadi, here. Renowned Sikh Scholar, Harmeet Singh delivered an informative lecture on the philosophy of Guru Nanak Dev’s verses ‘Pavan Guru, Pani Pita, Mata Dharat Mahat’ covering the subject and signifying teachings of Guru Nanak Dev for protection of air, water and earth, preached about 550 years ago. He further suggested various measures to keep environment clean and green. A symposium was also conducted to aware students, wherein speakers underscored the ecological relevance of Guru Nanak Dev’s philosophy in our day to day lives. Earlier, President J&K Rural Sports Club, Narinder Singh, in his welcome address, informed that plantation drive has been organised during monsoon season to commemorate 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev. Chairman, R M Public School, Rameshwar Mengi presented formal vote of thanks. Later, 550 saplings of different spices were planted by organisers and social forestry officials. Principal, R M Public School, Ravinder Kour and students of the school conducted proceedings of the function.
