NOWSHERA: A meeting of former Sarpanchs was held at Nowshera in which the participants rejected the new system of electing Sarpanch by Panchs of the village introduced by the Coalition Government.
Sarpanch Paramjeet Singh said that neither the former Sarpanchs nor the public in general is in favour of this system because it would become a source of corruption and there would be frequent changes of village Sarpanchs through bids thereby depriving the genuine persons.
All the Sarpanchs and the villagers in general are in favour of direct election of the Sarpanchs by the voters (villagers) as per the original Panchayati Raj Act.
Sarpanch Paramjeet Singh, Sarpanch Bindu Choudhary, Sarpanch Satpal Choudhary, Charan Singh, Romesh Choudhary, Sarpanch Sukhdev Singh, Sarpanch Mohd Sadiq and others said that in case the Government does not accede to the public suggestion, it would be construed that the Government itself is in favour of promoting corruption.
