JAMMU: Housing and Urban Development department has refuted the news item appearing in S.D Rohmetra Editor-in-Chief Daily Excelsior known for blackmailing and publishing fake stores, under the heading “Glaring example of discrimination-Govt announces 16 new ULBs: 12 for Kashmir, 4 for Jammu”.
Dy CM Tara Chand, who holds the portfolio of Housing and Urban Development Department stated that the S.D Rohmetra Editor-in-Chief Daily Excelsior report contains lot of factually incorrect information and is, therefore, misleading.
This news paper is known for carrying incorrect misleading reports. In the State of Jammu and Kashmir there are 85 Urban Local Bodies including tow Corporation Jammu Municipal Corporation and Srinagar Municipal Corporation. The alleged discrimination with Jammu region by the present government is totally contrary to the facts as there were 35 committees/councils in Jammu and 47 in Kashmir prior to January, 2009 when the present government took over. However, as per demand of the public and local representatives, one of the committee exisiting in Kashmir namely Municipal Committee Arwani was denotified which brought the total in Kashmir to 46. Similarly, on public demand/interest, two new committees namely Municipal Committee Kalakote and Municipal Committee Thathri were constituted in Jammu Province during 2010 bringing the total to 37.
Most of the Committee have been constituted prior to 2005. A few of the committees have also been constituted between 2005 and 2008 where elections could not be held. As indicated above two committees were constituted after Jan. 2009.
