JAMMU: Police on Friday arrested a driver with contraband of poppy straw in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
“During a routine checking at Poshakhana Check Point on Mughal Road a taxi was intercepted, which was coming from Kashmir,” Ajay Jamwal, SHO Surankote said. He said that during frisking of the vehicle, 8-kg poppy straw (Bhukki) was recovered from the posession of the driver identified as Abdul Majeed of Poonch.
He said the SSP Poonch Rajiv Pandey has issued instructions to keep check on Mughal Road as it has become one of the safe routes for the drug peddlers to smuggle the narcotics.
A case under NDPS Act has been registered and investigation started.
