JAMMU: A woman doctor in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday donated blood 55th time during the blood donation camp organized in connection with Police Commemoration Day here at Gulshan Ground.
A senior medical officer at Police Hospital, Jammu, Kiran Sharma, termed her blood donation as a tribute to Martyrs of J&K Police.
“I am donating blood for the past 32 years. I started in 1987 when I was a student,” she said. “I feel satisfied in social work and had voluntarily joined several non-government organisations for the betterment of the society,” she said.
Sharma also works as a volunteer with the All India Women Conference which helps destitute, abandoned and divorced women.
Hailing from picturesque Bhadarwah, the message of Dr Kiran Sharma to young people is to donate blood, at least once. She believes that blood should not be given only in the event of medical emergencies but it should be a routine affair. “After all, we always need reserves in the Blood Bank to meet exigencies like accidents, tragedies and in case of dire need of those under critical care”, Dr Kiran added.
