STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Minister of State (Incharge) Northeast Region, Personal, Public Grievances and Pensions, Atomic Energy and Department of Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh on Thursday performed the Bhoomi Poojan ceremony of the AIIMS building in Jammu. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jitendra Singh said that Jammu and Kashmir is the only state or Union Territory in the country to have been allocated two AIIMS-one in Jammu and one in Kashmir. He thanked the Prime Minister for his focus on development in the Union Territory Jammu & Kashmir on the same lines with North Eastern States. Dr Singh said that nine medical collages have also been sanctioned in Jammu & Kashmir in addition to the two AIIMS. The foundation stone of AIIMS, Jammu project was laid by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 3, 2019. Estimated to be built at a cost of Rs 1661 crores, the project is being executed by CPWD. It is projected to be completed in 30 months by August 21, 2022. It has a total build up area of 22,315 sqm. Once completed, AIIMS Jammu shall be a 750 bedded hospital with super speciality departments. It shall also have a medical college and a nursing college. The AIIMS will be a green building incorporating the state of the art equipment and technology. The Union Minister was accompanied by the officers of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and Ministry of Home Affairs. Member Parliament, Jugal Kishore; Advisor to LG, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar; Financial Commissioner H&M Education Department, Atal Dulloo, Director AIIMS Rishikesh, Prof Ravi Kant; former minister Chander Prakash Ganga and ex Legislator Davinder Singh Manyal were also present.
