State Times News UDHAMPUR: Union Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh today performed Bhumi Pujan to start construction work of State’s second Highway Haat/ Village at Gurnai, Udhampur on the National Highway. Pertinent to mention that the State’s first Highway Haat/Village is coming up in Kathua, for which the construction work started about a month ago. The two Highway Haat/Villages, in Kathua and Udhampur respectively, are among the first lot of such Highway complexes proposed by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) across the country. Briefing the media after the ceremony, Dr Jitendra Singh said that it is a matter of pride and personal satisfaction for him that the State’s first two Highway Haat villages, under the new concept, will be constructed in Udhampur-Kathua-Doda Lok Sabha constituency. Along with river Devika Rejuvenation project, which was officially launched by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on 3rd February, he said, the new Highway Haat/Village will emerge as the second attractive destination in Udhampur and in times to come, both these locations will be known as twin tourists spots in Udhampur. Dr Jitendra Singh informed that the Highway Haat/village, the construction work of which started today, will be ready in one and half year and it will be a wholesome complex, consisting of food restaurant, rest rooms, automobile service station/workshop, medical dispensary, internet centre, wi-fi facility, toilet enclosure etc. This complex, he said, will also serve as source of revenue, business and job generation for youth. Dr Jitendra Singh enumerated a series of first-ever development works in the Udhampur-Kathua-Doda Lok Sabha constituency which have been accomplished within last five years and the visual evidence of which is available on record as well as in public domain/social media for anybody to see. In this regard, he referred to the State’s first inter-State bridge at Keediya Gandyal, Shahpur Kandi Dam project, for which the work has started after being stalled for 40 years, North India’s first Industrial Biotech Park in Kathua, first-ever Seed processing plant at Kathua, Medical College and Engineering College in Kathua, new University campus and Juthana bridge in Kathua, Kendriya Vidyalaya in Janglot Kathua, Passport Office at Kathua, 12 new BRO bridges, Atal Setu bridge in Basohli with toilet complex from MP fund, around 400 Sulabh toilets along border villages of Hiranagar from voluntary funds, reservation for International Border residents, toilet complex at Shiv Khori, War Memorial and Dental care hospital facility in Reasi, Rs 2.5 cr voluntary donation for flood ravaged Saddal village area, River Devika Project in Udhampur, Passport office in Udhampur, Radio Station in Udhampur, new Highway Haat/ village in Udhampur, three landmark tunnels namely Chattergala, Khilani-Sudhmahadev and Bhaderwah-Chamba (Himachal Pradesh), New Lakhanpur Highway, Medical College in Doda, National Institute of High Altitude Medicine and community hall in memory of Late Daya Krishen Kotwal in Bhadarwah, Degree college Padar, Kishtwar, Pakkal-Dul and Keru Power Projects in Kishtwar, first-ever Post Office and SBI branch at Gandoh, district Doda, allocation of Rs 1,700 cr under PMGSY scheme for the constituency out of total Rs 3800 cr for the whole State, highest-ever Central Road funding, recent sanction of 12 Degree Colleges for the constituency, Kendriya Vidyalya for Jodhpur, bridge on Udhampur-Ramnagar road, Centrally funded Sports Stadium at Ramnagar, long awaited Udhampur to Gordi Road, etc. The list can go on and on, he said. Earlier, in a solemn ceremony, which began with two-minute silence in the memory of Pulwama martyrs, a ‘Bhumi Pujan’ was performed amid the chanting of Holy Mantras, which was attended by the Deputy commissioner, Ravinder Kumar, senior officers of state administration, NHAI officials, Chairman Municipal Council Dr Yogesh Gupta, prominent political leaders including Pawan Khajuria, Somraj Khajura, Rakesh Gupta, Akhil Prasahar besides a number of newly elected Sarpanchs and Panchs.
