DODA: All services, except emergency unit, came to a near halt at District Hospital Doda on Friday after all the doctors and paramedics went on an indefinite strike to protest against the alleged authoritarian attitude of District Development Commissioner, who had reportedly ordered suspension of a consultant surgeon without any valid reason.
There was total chaos as strike put hundreds of OPD patients and those admitted in District Hospital Doda to inconvience as there was no one to attend them.
According to reports, District Development Commissioner Doda Bhupinder Kumar ordered suspension of a consultant surgeon of DH Doda, Dr Rakesh Kumar on 10th April after attendants of a patient complained against him for not performing surgery in time.
Striking doctors while refuting the allegation said that Dr Rakesh, is a thorough gentleman and the issue has been raised to malign his image as a result of personal vendetta. They alleged that DDC ordered suspension in haste and without holding an inquiry.
A Senior consultant Surgeon Dr A.A Khan said that, “We are already facing acute shortage of doctors and by ordering suspension of a thorough professional, you are further discouraging them to perform their duties here. The suspended surgeon is in a state of shock as the allegation made against him are completely false and baseless”.
While demanding immediate revocation of suspension order he said that failing which all the senior doctors will proceed on protest leave from tomorrow.
When contacted Chief Medical Officer Doda, Dr Wajid Ali Najar said that if doctor is at fault, there should be a proper inquiry, only then action should be initiated. Unfortunately DDC acted in haste and ordered suspension of a competent Surgeon without listening to other side of the story.
He further said “I have approached and requested DDC to revoke the suspension order in the interest of administration and for the sake of common public. As of now, all the doctors and paramadics are on indefinite strike”.
“Hopefully the deadlock will end soon as doctors have even offered open inquiry into the incident,” he added.
Meanwhile protesting doctors have threatened, if the suspension order is not revoked immediately, doctors and paramadics posted in all the hospitals of Chenab Valley will go on indefinite strike from tommarrow.
Despite repeated tries, DDC Doda, Bhupinder Kumar did not respond to the calls.
