JAMMU: Divya Wazir of Government College for Women (GCW), Parade Jammu won the Women’s Lead Climbing title in the 18th J&K State Sport Climbing Championship which started here on Wednesday at Sprawling Buds IESC School, Luxmi Puram.
The second and third positions were bagged by Sumerhera of the same college and Kajal Sharma of GCW Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. Similarly in the girls category, wherein only eight climbers participated, Mahi Devi and Natasha Bali of Government Higher Secondary School Domana and Sweety of Shining Star High School, Muthi secured first, second and third positions respectively.
In the boys category, with 42 climbers in contest, nine climbers led by Mandeep Singh of St. Xavier Convent School, Barnai have reached the final round. Similarly, Sukriti Kumari of Shining Star High School, Muthi, Jammu led a pack of eight climbers in the final round of the Sub Junior girls category.
Finals in all categories of Lead Climbing and Speed Climbing shall be organised tomorrow.
Earlier, the championship was declared open by former MLA, Ashwani Sharma in the presence of Chairman, Indian Mountaineering Foundation, North Zone Committee, New Delhi, S. Bhattacharjee, General Secretary, Mountaineering Association of J&K, Ram Khajuria and Chairman, Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Rahul Sharma.
Prominent among others present on the occasion include Yogeshwar Kumar, Shawetica Khajuria, Principal of Apple Kids School Arti Sharma, Shashi Kant Sharma, Sakshi Magotra, Shivani Charak, Ajay Deep Singh, Arun Deep Singh, Mrityunjay Sharma, Sourav Deep Singh, all prominent climbers and technical officials from IMF North Zone Committee, New Delhi.
The championship is being organised by Mountaineering Association of J&K and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.

Mini Boys: Harsh Pir, Ritik Khanetra, Keshvam Dev Singh, Md.Asrar Ul Meraj, Vaibhav Thakur, Mohd. Abbas, Atul Sharma, Anurag Bhagat.
