Sports Reporter JAMMU: The 18th Jammu District Sport Climbing Championship, organised by Mountaineering Association of J&K (MAJK) in collaboration with Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, here, shall take place on April 26. The Jammu District competition shall be followed by Udhampur, Reasi and Samba Districts championships from April 27 onwards. About 250 climbers from various educational institutions of Jammu District shall take part in this competition. “The competitions, to be conducted on the pre fabricated fiber glass 40ft high Tenzing Norgay Sport Climbing Wall within the campus of Sprawling Buds ICSE School, shall be held in eight categories of men, women (born in 2001, 2000 and earlier), boys, girls (born in 2002, 2003 an 2004); Sub Junior boys / girls (born in 2005 and 2006) and Mini boys/girls (born in 2007 and after),” General Secretary of MAJK, Ram Khajuria said. Whereas men, women, boys and girls shall compete both in ‘Lead’ as well as ‘Speed’, those Sub Junior boys/girls and Mini boys and girls shall participate only in ‘Lead climbing’. For registration and further information interested climbers, institution and clubs should contact executive member of MAJK, Sonam Sidharth on Mobile No: 9622396960. “On the spot registration shall also be done at Sprawling Buds ICSE School from 7:30 to 8:00 AM on the competition day i.e. April 26. However, the Association has decided not to allow zonal medal winners for this district level competition so as to pave way for the budding climbers to come up,” informed Khajuria. Whereas Shawetica Khajuria, an international judge in sport climbing shall be the president of the Jury of the competition, Sonam Sidharth has been made Organising Secretary. However, technical and logistic support shall be provided by Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) North Zone Committee, New Delhi. The championship has been sponsored by J&K State Sports Council. It is worth mentioning here that Sport Climbing is now an Olympic discipline and accordingly has been included in the 18th Asian Games scheduled to be organized at Jakarta and Palembang in Indonesia from August 18 to September 2.
